Estonia`s court system one of the most efficient in Europe
The European Commission annually publishes the EU Justice Scoreboard which ranks member states according to indicators representing independence, efficiency and quality of the court system.
Pursuant to the newest edition based on 2016 data, Estonia’s court system is one of the most efficient in Europe. Namely, it ranked high in the speed of resolving various civil and administrative cases in the first court instance.
Estonia received maximum points for availability of electronic means for communicating with the courts (incl. submitting a case, monitoring stages of proceeding, transmitting summons) and use of social media.
Estonia ranked below average in financing of the court system and number of judges and lawyers per capita.
